Coconut materials for substrate production come from coconut shells. As a by-product of coconut production, they are continuously produced in large quantities. Without horticultural use, they would be largely disposed of. To minimise CO2 emissions during transport, coconut is sun-dried and shipped in compacted blocks.
We use materials from coconut shells that have been prepared in various ways and are RAL-quality certified. They have positive effects on the capillarity, air capacity and structural stability of the substrates. They promote water absorption and improve drainage.
CocoSol® consists of the pulp of the coconut shell, is homogeneous in composition and provides structural stability and air capacity in the substrate. This makes the substrate more free-flowing, easy to process by machine and always quickly wettable. It is processed at Brill and is approved for organic horticulture according to EU regulation 834/2007. While coconut fibres have been used for a long time, for things like mattresses, only horticultural use of the fine material ensures its recycling.
CocoDrain® is an optimised mixture of coconut fibres, coconut chips and fine material. This very high-quality coconut material is structurally stable and especially supports the air capacity of the substrate. It also improves water distribution in the pot and the substrate remains quickly wettable.
