For more than 20 years, our Green Life substrates have proven themselves in practice for many producers. The well thought-out combination of peat substitute raw materials, mineral substances and selected peat forms the perfect basis for successful growth.
Due to its unique properties, peat is an important component in substrate production and difficult to replace. Its chemical and physical properties make it an excellent basic raw material for plant production in horticulture. Parallel to the use of peat, Brill has increasingly used rapidly renewable peat substitutes for soil and substrate production for many years, in keeping with its own strategy.
For production of our Green Life substrates, we use various internally prepared, RAL-quality assured, rapidly renewable raw materials: LignoTer®, LignoDrain®, RAL-quality assured CocoSol®, CocoDrain®, RAL-quality assured substrate compost and pine bark. In addition we use the mineral raw materials perlite and expanding clay. Before we use peat substitutes for production of growing media, they must meet our high quality standards, just like the premium peats, in order to ensure crop safety. In combination with selected peats they form the perfect basis for safe growth.
Due to social and political pressure on the horticultural sector, peat-reduced substrates have gained a large share of the market. Demand for plants in peat-reduced and even peat-free substrates is increasing. Experience with our field-tested formulations shows that peat substitutes can replace peat – at least partially – for many horticultural applications and improve some substrate properties. LignoDrain® and LignoTer® ensure that the pot surface dries quickly. With adapted irrigation, growth of moss or liverwort is inhibited, e.g. in cold crops; in the open field the growth of wild weeds is reduced.
Our experts have over 20 years of experience with different alternative ingredients based on wood, compost, coconut, etc., for many different crops. Peat-reduced substrates require an adapted cultivation and water supply. Needless to say, crop safety is always a priority, even for substrates with peat substitutes.
