On June 1, 1920, the textile merchants and brothers Arnold and August Brill founded the general partnership \u201cGeorgsdorfer Torfwerk Gebr. Brill\u201d. Their combined technical and commercial expertise led the company from small beginnings to its present importance. In the late 1970s, the company was one of the first in Germany to succeed in switching from peat litter and peat fuel extraction to production of high-quality substrates and soils. Today, Gerrit Brill is the third generation in his family to lead \u201cGebr. Brill Substrate GmbH & Co. KG\u201d.<\/p>\n

From the beginning of January 2022, Kekkil\u00e4-BVB will take over the traditional family business Gebr. Brill Substrate GmbH & Co. KG. The purchase contract was signed on December 10, 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The production company will continue to operate under the name Kekkil\u00e4-Brill Substrate GmbH. Together with Gebr. Brill Substrate, Kekkil\u00e4-BVB is taking over the shares of Brill Papenburg Logistics GmbH, the sales subsidiary Brill France and 50% of the shares in Geotec production in Italy.<\/p>\n

Focus on crop safety<\/strong><\/p>\n

Historically, peat has been an important, difficult-to-replace component for substrate production due to its unique properties. In vegetable plant cultivation alone, Brill produces peat-based substrates for around 2.5 billion young plants every year and thus contributes to supplying people with a healthy and diverse range of fruit and vegetables in Germany and over 30 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n

Sustainable product strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n

“For years, we have been working in the field of growing media and gardening products with rapidly renewable raw materials as a supplement to peat. In our anniversary year, 2020, we are focusing even more clearly on sustainability. In addition to peat reduction, we also deal intensively with issues such as climate neutrality, use of old plastic, regenerative power supply and digitisation.
